Be Part of FIFF’s Film
Selection Process

Our volunteer Screening Committee helps review submissions from filmmakers around the world and plays an important role in the first stage of FIFF’s programming process.

You do not need to work in the film industry to apply.

We’re looking for thoughtful, curious film lovers who can approach different genres, subjects and filmmaking styles with an open mind and evaluate the quality of the work—not simply whether a film matches their personal taste.

What Screeners Do

FIFF screeners watch assigned films in their entirety through FilmFreeway, score each project using FIFF’s screening criteria, and provide brief, thoughtful feedback. Screeners are also expected to meet all review deadlines, maintain strict confidentiality, and disclose any potential conflicts of interest.

Every film and screenplay is reviewed at least three times. If scores differ significantly, a project may receive an additional review to ensure a thoughtful and balanced evaluation.

Final programming decisions are made by the FIFF programming team.

Who We're Looking For

Professional film experience is welcome but not required.

Our Screening Committee may include filmmakers, film-industry professionals, educators, college students, writers, arts professionals, experienced festival volunteers and people who simply love movies.

More important than a film résumé is being:

Screening Commitment

initial assignments will generally include approximately 10–15 hours of content. Active screeners may receive additional assignments during the second round, with more projects available for those who would like to participate at a higher level.
